The Gateway History

Discover the captivating Gateway Building. Groundbreaking occurred in 1996 for this outstanding structure as part of an ambitious riverfront revitalization initiative. The inaugural event at the Gateway Building was a memorable wedding, held in October 1997. 

Even after nearly three decades, weddings continue to be a significant highlight within the annual calendar of events hosted at this remarkable venue. In addition, corporate gatherings, luncheons, and exclusive parties enhance the diverse range of occasions held at the Gateway Building. 

Nestled directly on the Peoria Riverfront, this architectural gem boasts a rich history traceable back to indigenous populations and the erection of Fort St. Louis by the first European settlers in 1691. Embracing the vibrant ambiance of the riverfront, from bustling markets and art festivals to sensational concerts, the Gateway Building proudly stands at the heart of these festivities.

In 2022, the Childers organization agreed to become the operators of the Gateway Building, bringing with them a full remodeling of the main event space. The Gateway Building now stands as a modern event space and gathering point for people from across the region and the country.
